Owon RDS1021i rise time evaluation

The Owon RDS1021i is a USB ‘pen' DSO used in concert with a Windows client application.

Above, the Owon RDS1021i.

The package also includes the accessories above.

The pulse tester used is a the Leo Bodnar Fast risetime (40ps) pulse generator.

Above, a termination for the pulse generator for testing Oscilloscope probes. There is a pair of 100Ω 1% 0806 SMD resistors soldered in parallel, then soldered from shield to centre pin using some copper wire for flexing with thermal expansion.

Shortest connection

Above an illustration of the connection (though with a different probe), the ‘scope probe held in place with shortest connections to measure the rise / fall time.

Above is capture of the rise and fall time on the Owon RDS1021i.

The rise time in this configuration is much better than implied by the specifications.

Using the ground lead

Using the ground lead to connect, performance is degraded somewhat.

Though performance is degraded, the rise time in this configuration is a little better than implied by the specifications.
